My friend Tanner suggested that I am short-selling myself by not allowing others to add comments to my blog.
Since I started this blog as an experiment to familiarize myself with different types of content management software, it never occurred to me to open it up (in fact, I was surprised that anyone actually read it at all). My initial installation was “locked down” to reduce the potential avenues for spam.
So today, I turned on comments. It required a little bit of SQL tinkering to enable comments on past posts… I hope I did not mess anything up.

These “comments” are totally ridiculous! Open-schmopen – proprietary is where it’s at!
Hmm… Ok, there’s a perfect example of the problem with allowing comments. The previous comment was *not* left by me!
Anyway, I wouldn’t worry about comments on older posts. In fact, I have a wordpress plugin on my WP site that turns them off after a month or so. You get to the point of diminishing returns fairly quickly.
But, hey! Comments. Cool! 🙂

You guys are really building a good case for why I should let random idiots post comments to my blog.
Aren’t you curious as to why random idiots are reading your blog ?
I think I attract them.
This is why you turn on comments but require login. Those who want to comment will go to the trouble of getting an account.
… or you do moderated comments 🙂
